Sally Timms - Blade
Lucy and Blade, Schooling at home
The first time Lucy sat on Blade was almost two years ago and I can honestly say we haven't looked back. Lucy first rode Blade for me when nobody else would, as I was on holiday, he was labelled 'a rearer' and 'dangerous'. However, Lucy saw past his tantrums and rode him patiently and firmly. Blade quickly learnt to respect Lucy's riding and also mine. He still had occasional rearing phases which Lucy dealt with calmly and properly. Lucy has never ridden Blade with a whip and all the work we have both done has been through patience and hard work. We discovered his absolute love for jumping and he has already begun jumping in affiliated competition under Lucy's riding. He popped 1m40 and has just turned into a completely different horse. I refused to jump Blade when I first started riding him with Lucy, but, Lucy has been so patient and supportive and I have even managed to win my first competition with him. I hope Blade will keep progressing and Lucy will continue to ride him, I cannot thank Lucy enough for all the work she has done with Blade.
Jenny Abery - Jigsaw
I contacted Lucy in June 2012 to help exercise my New Forest pony Jigsaw and to teach her to jump. I am a student of Intelligent Horsemanship, which use non-violent training methods. It was incredibly important to me to find someone to ride my pony who would continue her training with the same principals. I have owned Jigsaw for 5 years and would describe her as ‘quirky’. I have spent hours and hours training Jigsaw from the ground but as I am too big to ride her I needed someone who would help me continue her education in the saddle and teach her to jump. Jigsaw requires lots of patience as she is terrified of poles and is so claustrophobic that even walking through barrels is a big ask.
Lucy has only been riding Jigsaw for about a month but she has been worth her weight in gold. I am absolutely delighted to find someone so patient, reliable and kind to work with my pony. Not only is she an exceptionally talented young rider but she has a fantastic attitude and approach to working with horses. Lucy has, in a matter of weeks, got Jigsaw walking through barrels, walking over poles and even popping small cross poles. I can’t recommend Lucy highly enough and will happily speak to anyone considering using Lucy to ride their horse. I hope you all enjoy watching Lucy progress Jigsaw’s jumping career through her videos. We have had lots of fun training this pony and I hope Lucy will continue riding her for some time yet.
Nikkita Limb - Mojo
Lucy and Mojo; Gridwork at home
I have had my gorgeous pony Mo for about 5 months now and it’s all thanks to Lucy! Mo was advertised on Lucy’s Facebook and on YouTube and I fell in love with her instantly! She was the first pony I went to view after selling my 13.2hh Olly and even though I couldn’t really ride her very well to start with, because she was so different, I knew that things could only improve. Lucy helped me through the first couple of months and giving me tips and telling me how to overcome all her little quirks! All I can say is Lucy is one great rider, who can get on and ride almost any horse or pony and she is always willing to help people when they need it!!
Caitlin Hall - Tiger
I'm based in Scotland, yet I needed help from someone with patience and understanding. All my instructors were too vicious for my little mare, Tiger. Lucy's maturity stretches far beyond her years and some of the advice she has offered has been invaluable to me. My little mare had a severe napping problem, to the point we could not rider her anywhere, but the school with all gates shut, only issue being, this mare was supposed to be an eventer yet she wouldn't step in a field, on a track or up the lane without putting me on the floor. I had watched Lucy's videos of Blade and felt he had the same sort of issue. I contacted Lucy via YouTube, where she offered me really excellent advice. Her methods were very different, she didn't tell me to use a whip and beat her, which is what I had previously been told. ''There’s a time and a place for these things and this isn't one of them'' were her exact words. I was so willing to take on board her advice as she took the time to understand my individual problem. After putting her advice into practice, my mare began taking small steps towards the end of this vicious circle. Whenever we had a bad day, I could rely on Lucy for the support I needed, which a lot of professionals do not give. Now, 5 months later, Tiger and I have completed our first BE90, coming 9th, without a hint of napping. Even now, Lucy shows an interest in how we are progressing and it's lovely to have someone so supportive to be just a message away. Without Lucy, I fear my mare would have been sold by now. Cannot recommend her enough and if I ever compete in England, I'll be sure to give her a call!
Emily Taylor - Monty
Lucy and Monty, Schooling at home
I had lost all my confidence riding Monty, I wouldn't jump and I was just too nervous to do anything (through no fault of Monty). I asked Lucy to ride and compete Monty for me while I rode my other pony. Lucy was really helpful and always helped me when I rode Monty as well. Lucy rode Monty for us for most of his customers and he is now sold to a lovely home.
Anne Trinder - Cindy
I have a 13.2h Welsh x Arab mare that suddenly started bucking and napping. I had her teeth and back checked, they were both fine, but the children no longer wanted to ride her, so I decided to try and sell her. I am at the same yard as Lucy and when she heard I was having problems, asked if I would like some help, which I gratefully accepted, as I wondered who would want to buy Cindy with her bucking and napping issues. Lucy rode Cindy very quietly and sympathetically, not asking too much of her the first time, but at the same time being firm enough not to let her do as she wanted to. Amazingly she managed to ride her for 15mins with no bucking, she has ridden her on numerous occasions since, and there have been no problems. I am so pleased Lucy offered her help and she has told me she is always there if I need any more further help. I have recently brought a 3 year old gelding and will certainly be asking Lucy to help me in the near future with him. I would certainly recommend Lucy to anyone who would like help, from a quiet sympathetic rider, who seems to really understand how a horse thinks. Thank you very much Lucy.
Sally Hawkett - Beauty
Lucy and Beauty; Reserve Inhand Champions
I have a 11.3 welsh a that I brought for my daughter to learn to ride but soon started to loose interested in riding so I asked around to find someone to help exercise my little pony plus I didn't know what she was like off lead rein and I came across Lucy at my yard. Lucy started to ride Beauty she was very quiet and ask her to work nicely and I didn't know that my pony could move in a very nice way that Lucy had her moving. We have a bit of work to do in canter, as she can do the odd buck but that has not put Lucy off riding her and she has even offered to help get my daughter back into riding, to give her lessons and help take her to the odd show doing in hand.
I am very pleased with what Lucy has done so far with Beauty.
Rachel Barnes - Ascot
Lucy is a very talented young rider. She helped me so much when I had Ascot. I didn't have time to ride her so I asked Lucy if she would ride her for me and she did. Lucy kept Ascot fit and in use, otherwise Ascot would have just been left in the field doing no work. In the end I had no time for Ascot as I had just had a baby so I decided to sell her. Lucy helped me advertise her and was at the veiwing if I couldn't be there. She helped me so much, I don't know what I would have done without her.
Abby Faulkner - Chloe
I have had Chloe for over a year now and we are getting on really well! I wanted a pony who had the ability to do what I wanted but who had character and a few little quirks and that is when I came along Chloe. I had seen a few ponies before her but none of them made me smile or want to try them again but when Chloe was recommended to me everything changed. There were a few times when Chloe played up and we had to wait a long time for our vetting but Lucy stuck with us and always gave honest opinions. Lucy guided me through riding Chloe, jumping her and coping with her unpredictable moments. This pony has tested me but has always put a smile on my face and its all thanks to Lucy. She has supported me and given me advice on anything I needed. Even now I always have Lucy to go to with any problems or questions about how to get that slightly faster time or better marks in competitions. What can I say? Lucy is an amazing rider, instructor and competitor and I wouldn’t have found a better pony without her.
James Kirk, Showjumper
I have watched Lucy mature on the show jumping circuit for about 2 years. Every horse or pony she rides, she is quiet, effective and forgiving. She's a lovely rider and a lovely girl. She really wants the best for both horse and owner, unlike riders trying to gain experience she doesn't ask for it, I've seen many people approach her with views to her riding their horse. Lucy will go very far in whatever sphere of riding she chooses and I would happily have her jump my horses all day long if she wasn't at school! I've never met such an honest, quiet adaptable rider, who doesn't just sit like a passenger, like a lot of children these days. I have written this testimonial voluntarily as I feel Lucy does not get half the credit she deserves for her work!
Natasha Bremmier - Milo
I hadn't known Lucy long, when I enlisted her help with my riding. I had bought a fantastic horse, a real gentleman and schoolmaster. I contacted Lucy via her email stating the problems I had with my position and how I was worried that I would ruin this wonderful horse. Lucy was prompt with her reply and was very helpful with her advice. After discussing things over the phone I decided Lucy should come and sit on Milo. She was visiting my yard to see a friend and this fitted in with my schedule. After one session with Lucy, I feel much more confident. Milo went fantastically for Lucy and it's really given me an aim. I have already booked my lesson with Lucy and without her I think Milo and I would no longer be together! She's an ambitious young rider who only wants to help people, she's not there to show off her skill or make herself look better, she's really in it to help, which is what appealed to me in the first place. Thoroughly recommend her!
